The list of education courses for 2010 available for Brigade and Branch Officials has been released:
Pension & Medical Appeals 29th January
This course is designed for FBU Officials who may have responsibility for representing members at Medical Appeal Boards and who wish to develop their confidence and skills in preparation and representation.
It will also be of use to those Officials who have responsibility for providing pensions’ advice to members.
The course will therefore concentrate on sharing knowledge and discussing best practice when handling member’s Pensions issues and Medical Appeals within the context of the current arrangements.
Introductory Branch officials 3rd - 4th March
This introductory course has been designed by FBU Education to help Branch Officials improve their skills, update their knowledge and gain confidence as Reps to organise effectively in their workplace, help members and represent them.
Weekend RDS School 8th – 9th May
This introductory course has been designed by FBU Education to help Branch Officials improve their skills, update their knowledge and gain confidence as Reps to organise effectively in their workplace, help members and represent them.
This course has been designed for newly elected and less experienced RDS FBU Branch Reps who have not yet attended another course. Long standing RDS reps may wish to consider attending as a brush up.
Introductory Health & Safety 14th – 15th July
This course has been designed for newly elected and less experienced FBU Branch Health and Safety Reps who have not yet attended another course.
A key purpose of the course is to provide an opportunity for FBU Health & Safety Reps to meet together to look at how they can use their rights and develop the skills necessary to improve health & safety standards for their members. Further opportunities for relevant trade union education are available on the TUC programme of courses for union safety representatives.
Handling members problems 13th – 14th September
This course has been designed to help Branch Officials improve their skills, update their knowledge and gain confidence as Reps to organise effectively in their workplace, help members and represent them.
Tackling bullying & harassment 17th – 18th November
This introductory course has been designed to help FBU Branch Officials deal with Fairness at Work issues in the workplace and is particularly intended to increase awareness and knowledge of the issue of workplace bullying & harassment.
The programme will help participants gain the confidence to challenge unacceptable behaviour, and set clear standards of behaviour, in order to create a positive working environment.
Engaging with Politics & Campaigning – Introduction 2nd – 3rd December
This course has been designed to help FBU Officials and Activists discuss the relevance of politics to trade unions and the FBU and understand how unions, especially the FBU, may be involved in politics at national, regional and local level.
The course will include opportunities for participants to update their knowledge of relevant contemporary issues, both industrial and political, and develop best practice in pursuit of trade union objectives.
